Rave Kandi

A history, explanation, and facts

What is Kandi?

Kandi (or rave kandi) Is a type of jewelry made of plastic beads. It is typically made with pony beads and stretch cord or fishing line. Perlers (also known as fuse beads) are sometimes attached to kandi (usually 3D cuffs and necklaces.)It is typically worn by ravers, however, so long as you follow plur, anyone can wear it.It does not necessarily have to be jewelry (for example it can be tapestries, bags, keychains, etc.) but usually is wearable in some way.Trading is usually done at raves (but can be done in other places) by doing the "PLUR" handshake. PLUR stands for peace, love, unity, and respect.

The History of Kandi

Kandi was started in the early '90s by ravers. They were traded s a way to show friendship and respect. The term "PLUR" originated as "PLUM" (the peace, love, and unity movement) in Brooklyn. The term was started by American DJ Frankie Bones in order to bring the UK's rave scene to New York.
